Audition Process—Part 2: Callbacks
- Callbacks are in person and are MANDATORY.
- Failure to show for callbacks will result in the student’s ineligibility to be cast in the show.
- If you believe you will not be able to attend callbacks, please IMMEDIATELY notify Top Hat Staff via email at info@toptheatrics.org.
- The students’ behavior, such as excessive talking and/or other disruptive actions, will be recorded throughout this audition process and may affect their eligibility to be cast.
- Keep it simple, and be respectful to Top Hat staff’s time and the other students auditioning at all times!
- Callback schedule in order from top to bottom:
- Dance Callbacks
- This is a HEAVY dance show; please be prepared to wear the appropriate attire to dance in. Students learn a dance number/combo from our choreographer and be asked to perform it either alone or as a group.
- Singing Callbacks
- Students will sing select parts for the roles called back for and will also sing ensemble numbers as a group and alone.
- Acting Callbacks
- Students read select dialogue from the show based on what the student was called back for. Directors may ask students to cold read for characters that they were not called back to read.
- Dance Callbacks
- Advice from our Directors: Give your 110% effort in any role you are asked to read or sing for; this is crucial for the directors to understand how well you read as the character and where you, the student, may be cast to better fit the story while still offering a challenge in a given role. Please do NOT ask to read or sing for a specific character; you will be declined.
Audition Process—Part 3: The Offer
- After callbacks, Top Hat Directors will take the following week to craft the cast list and offers. Casting decisions are final by the directors.
- If you, the student, are cast, students/parents will receive an email with the offer, and the student must reply with an accept or decline within 48 hours after the offer has been emailed.
- If the student does not accept the role, no harm, no foul at all. We encourage the student to ask for feedback based on their auditions 48 hours after the cast is announced, and we hope the student auditions at the next show!
- If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please always refer to the policy and procedures page at https://toptheatrics.org/general-production-policies-and-procedures/
